The position

Your future work will include sample preparation and bulk transcriptomics of mammalian tissue samples as well as bioinformatic analysis. You will also work with spatial transcriptomic analysis of prefrontal cortex of patients with depression.


The person we need

We seek a curious and highly motivated candidate with a strong background in neuroscience. The ideal candidate should have experience working with handling and processing clinical and postmortem material and in programming languages to analyze high-throughput sequencing data.

Experience with molecular biology, brain anatomy, next-generation sequencing, and large-scale bioinformatics analysis is a strength.

The project involves sample preparation and bulk transcriptomic analysis of mammalian tissue samples and spatial transcriptomic analysis of the prefrontal cortex of patients with depression, thus, expertise in human mood disorders, especially depression, brain anatomy and hands on experience in transcriptomic analysis is a requisite. Publications in peer-reviewed journals is a merit. Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and written, is a necessity. Good inter-personal skills and ability to work in teams but also independently is highly valued.

Requirement for employment is a PhD within neurosciences or similar. In addition, the following techniques or methods are required:

  • Single-cell RNA-seq/RNA-seq/Spatial transcriptomics
  • In situ hybridization/RNAScope
  • Handling of clinical and postmortem tissue samples
  • Fluorescence microscopy/ Confocal microscopy
  • Scientific writing

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Practical experience in multi-omics experiments
  • Experience with bioinformatic analysis
  • Background within molecular or cell biology

The workplace

You will work at the Departement of Cell,- och Neurobiology . You will be working in Wen Zhong ’s research group, specializing in the integration of multi-omics, the interplay between genetics and phenotypes, and the development of data-driven strategies/tools for precision medicine.

The Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV) is one of the university's largest departments with operations primarily within the Faculty of Medicine. This is a temprary employment maximum 3 months, full-time.
