Department of Chemistry – BMC conducts research and education in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. More than 100 people work at the department. A one-year postgraduate researcher position is available in the laboratories of Professor Jan Streuff at the Department of Chemistry - BMC.

The Streuff Group is working in the fields of homogeneous catalysis and organic synthesis. Read more about there research at Streuff Group webpage. The project will deal with the application of catalytic cleavage reactions in the reclaiming of certain types of polymers within the framework of a FORMAS project. The candidate will actively engage in all aspects of the research planning and execution.

Duties
Tasks will include the synthesis of substrates, and catalysts, reaction optimization and application, analysis and interpretation of the results, full characterization of the products, precise documentation, as well as reporting the results on a regular basis and forward planning.

Besides carrying out the research project, the candidate will participate in the group organization and supervision of graduate/undergraduate students in the group.

Requirements
To qualify for an employment as a researcher you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in Organic Chemistry.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record with publications in high-level scientific journals.

We attach great importance to personal qualities such as good collaborative skills, motivation and independence, as well as how the applicant through his/her experience and competence is judged to have the abilities necessary to carry out the intended research. The ability of critical and analytical thinking are necessities and will therefore be valued at the selection of candidates. Candidates must be able to express themselves very well in spoken as well as written English.

Additional qualifications
Experience in the handling and characterization of polymeric materials will be considered as an advantage. Moreover, very good hands-on experience with NMR spectroscopic and gas chromatographic analysis, working under inert gas atmosphere as well as a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and transition metal catalysis will be considered as advantage.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 12 months. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date by agreement. Placement: Uppsala.
