Offer Description
Ref ORU 2.1.1-08549/2023
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in epidemiological methods for a three-year fixed-term position at the School of Medical Sciences.
Subject area
The subject area for this position is Medicine, with specialisation in epidemiology.
Background
The position will be based in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the School of Medical Sciences, Örebro University. The successful applicant will participate in a three-year epidemiological project funded by the Swedish Research Council, using register and other cohort study data to investigate how multimorbidity is associated with outcomes in patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Duties and responsibilities
The appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills. The researcher will be involved in operationalising the research questions and undertaking the analysis of large-scale data from several sources. Participation in scientific writing for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and dissemination of research findings through other channels will also be among the responsibilities. There will be opportunities for involvement in the research group’s other activities if desired.
Qualifications
Those qualified for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher are applicants who at the time of appointment hold a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree. Applicants with doctoral degrees that have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline are to be considered first. The applicant may not previously have held a position as a postdoctoral researcher for more than one year in the same subject and at the same higher education institution. If the person during the period of employment has been on parental leave, the period of employment is to be extended by the corresponding number of days. The period of employment may also be extended in the event of absence due to illness.
Qualifications include experience in a quantitative subject relevant to health and disease. This could include areas linked with, but not limited to, such as epidemiology, biostatistics, or psychology. Research experience should include analysis of health-related data and methodological competence in epidemiology and biostatistics. Experience of using software such as Stata, R, SPSS, or SAS is essential. Previous experience of using register data is desirable, but not essential.
Assessment criteria
The assessment will be specifically based on the applicant’s ability to demonstrate competence in relevant epidemiological methods relevant to the subject area of the research.
A basis for the assessment is also the applicant’s ability to disseminate information and communicate; collaborate and engage with the wider community; and facilitate utilisation of the university’s research. In addition, the applicant’s suitability for the position will be assessed. Suitability refers to the applicant demonstrating the personal qualities required to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities at hand, the ability to cooperate with other members of staff, and the ability to contribute to the development of the operations.
Particular attention will be paid to the applicant’s prospects of contributing to the future development of research. Importance is also attached to a demonstrated ability and ambition to embark on a career within academia.
