Postdoctoral position in single-cell research on long COVID

Updated: 13 days ago

Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

We are seeking an ambitious postdoctoral fellow who possesses strong skills in molecular biology and single-cell sequencing to join our team focused on cell-mediated immunity against viral infections. We provide a stimulating environment at the forefront of rapidly advancing research. The successful candidate will join a group of researchers working on related topics.

Your mission

The Buggert group is at the forefront of conducting innovative research on cell-mediated immunity across health, cancer, and viral diseases. Our studies are translational, leveraging advanced bulk- and single-cell technologies, such as high-parameter flow cytometry, gene editing, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, TCR-seq, and proteomics analysis. These tools allow us to explore the heterogeneity and functionality of memory T cell immunity in detail. Our objectives include investigating the diversity of circulating and tissue-resident memory T cells in humans, identifying novel roles of memory T cells in human tissues, and enhancing current immunological treatments for diseases like long COVID.

The postdoctoral candidate will focus on understanding the impact of long COVID on different tissue compartments. Working in close collaboration with other group members, the candidate will use a range of single-cell technologies to analyze how long COVID affects the immune system and barrier cellular subsets in the gut, tonsils, lungs, and cerebrospinal fluid of patients. We are looking for a candidate with a PhD, extensive experience in bioinformatics, and single-cell RNA- and ATAC-seq techniques. The successful applicant will be an integral part of our team, contributing to various projects and advancing their own research initiatives.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

To qualify for the postdoctoral position, candidates must possess a PhD in biomedicine or a related field and have demonstrated research expertise, including extensive experience with molecular biology techniques, documented through their doctoral thesis work.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has

  • Proficiency in single-cell RNA-sequencing technologies.
  • Proficiency in single-cell ATAC-sequencing technologies.
  • A broad skill set in bioinformatics specific to single-cell data analysis.
  • A broad skill set in flow cytometry sorting techniques.
  • A strong foundation in statistical methods.
  • Fluency in English.

It is meritorious that the applicant has

  • Laboratory skills in molecular and cell biology (e.g., preparation of RNAseq libraries, CRISPR-Cas9, etc).

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to the positive development of the activities at KI.
