Laboratory technician

A position as laboratory technician is available in the research group of Dr. Elif Eroglu. Eroglu Lab studies principles of heart regeneration using salamanders and human cardiac organoids as two complimentary models. The group is interested in understanding the cellular, molecular and mechanical mechanisms governing scarless tissue regeneration. The position is a permanent employment.


Your mission

You will assist the ongoing research in the lab by providing technical and organizational support to the researchers in the team. This will involve tissue clearing, cryosectioning, immunofluorescent staining, in situ hybridization, cloning and maxiprepping, preparation of protein lysates from salamander tissue, co-immunoprecipitation, western blotting and preparing sequencing libraries. Additionally, you will use high content imaging systems to visualize stainings, as well as performing other standard imaging techniques. You will also be asked to take on certain administrative tasks such as placing orders, ensuring that machines and equipment are maintained and serviced as well as maintaining the general order in the lab.

You are thorough, diligent, and used to documenting and organizing your work. You work in a clean and precise way. We expect you to be a positive and flexible person with good communication skills who appreciates being in a highly dynamic international research team. Due to the progressive nature of a scientific project, we expect you to be comfortable with learning new methods. You can work independently after training but are still a team player and very service minded. Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, assignments, and roles will be critical.

Entry requirements

A suitable background is a master’s degree within an area which the employer deems to be relevant. You must have a good understanding of basic molecular biology techniques as well as experience in handling salamander tissue and cryosectioning, culturing salamander heart explants, basic histology techniques, generation of 10X Genomics Visium libraries and preparation of mass spectrometry samples.  Experience with light-sheet imaging, high-content imaging on a scanner and image analysis on Imaris software is meriting.

Experience of successfully and independently running even a small project from beginning to end, including basic interpretation of your data with reportable results will be highly valued.
Furthermore, you must have excellent communication skills in English in both writing and speaking. The working language in the lab is English. Personal skills will be highly valued when assessing the candidates.
