Postdoctoral Fellow

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 07 Dec 2022

We invite applications for a postdoctoral fellowship with a two-year term and possible extension to three years, in the domains of scattering amplitudes and gravitational waves. The position will begin in October 2023. The fellowship will be funded in part by the European Research Council Advanced Grant, ``Ampl2Einstein'' (ERC--2019--ADG--885414), and in part by the Mani L. Bhaumik Institute for Theoretical Physics at UCLA.

The first two years of the fellowship will be held at the Institut de Physique Theorique (IPhT) at Saclay in the Paris suburbs, and may include extended research visits to the partner institution, CERN, in Geneva. The third year would be held at the Mani L. Bhaumik Institute for Theoretical Physics in Westwood, Los Angeles.

The postdoctoral researcher will work primarily on the subject of theoretical predictions for gravitational waves using techniques from quantum scattering amplitudes. The fellowship salary during the first two years will be according to the CEA's scale, and during a third year would be according to UCLA's scale.

The postdoctoral researcher will have a standard French contract during the first two years, with associated rights and obligations.

Applicants must hold, or be pursuing, a doctoral degree in a relevant subfield of theoretical physics. For applicants currently pursuing doctoral studies, the commencement of the fellowship is contingent upon a successful defense of their PhD thesis by September, 2023. In addition, applicants must be fluent (reading, writing, and speaking) in English.

A short list of applicants will be selected based on their CVs, publications, research statements, and comments from referees. Applicants on the short list may be interviewed remotely to select the incoming fellow.  Applications should include a CV, a list of publications, and a brief research statement.  Applicants should arrange for submission of three letters of reference from established researchers familiar with their work.

All materials should be uploaded electronically to Academic Jobs Online.

Applications should be received by December 7, 2022 in order to receive full consideration.
