Research Technician for Cell Biology

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: ; Deadline: Please submit your application by November 22nd, 2021

The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence,
based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an
interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient
administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in
Research' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to
developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with
the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of
Researchers (Charter and Code).

The role

A technician position is available in the Intracellular Self-Organization Laboratory led by Thomas Surrey. A
major research approach of the lab is microscopy-based biochemical in vitro reconstitutions. The successful
candidate will be responsible for supporting other lab members with various aspects of molecular and cell
biology, including cloning of expression constructs of recombinant proteins, and optimizations of protein
expressions in bacteria, insect and human cells and cell biology experiments. In doing so, contributions will
be made to several projects in the lab.

About the lab

The Surrey lab is interested in understanding the design principles of self-organizing intracellular structures.
The focus is on understanding how the microtubule cytoskeleton functions, with a focus on its role during
cell division. Reconstitutions of biochemical in vitro systems that mimic the dynamic behaviour of the
cytoskeleton are an important research approach in the lab, requiring high quality protein preparations. The
lab receives funding from the European Research Council (ERC), the Spanish Ministry of Science and
Innovation, the Centro de Excelencia Severo Ochoa, the CERCA Programme of the Generalitat de
Catalunya, the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), the Human Frontiers
Science Program (HFSP), and the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO).
