Job Description

This position is an appointment to Cancer Science Institute Microscopy and Multiplex Assays (MMA) Core. The MMA Core offers scientists a variety of paid services, ranging from basic histology processes to spatial proteomics and transcriptomics analysis.

We are looking for a meticulous and dedicated Research Assistant to anchor the day-to-day running of spatial biology services, and to assist in the maintaining the histology and multiplex immunohistochemical staining services.

The selected candidate will also assist in various administrative duties including purchasing and billing, as well in contributing towards other core services when appropriate.

  • Duties And Responsibilities

    Technical Role:

  • Responsible for setting up, maintenance and oversight the operations of the Nanostring Digital Spatial Profiler (DSP) and SPRNT n-Counter

  • Responsible for anchoring the spatial biology services

  • Assist in maintaining the histology processing and in the multiplex IHC assay services

  • Assist in the maintenance of the core’s histology equipment

  • Provide training and technical support to users, when appropriate

  •  

    Administrative Role:

  • Coordinating and renewing service contracts for the spatial biology equipment and histology equipment

  • Assist in the purchasing of reagents, consumables, and equipment for the MMA Core

  • Liaise with vendors and the administrative office to ensure proper purchase requisitions, goods delivery, and prompt payment of supplies

  • Assist in the booking and charging for microscope/MMA Core equipment usage

  • Preparation of safety documents, SOPS and risk assessments for the spatial biology section

  • Maintaining a systematic and proper record of all services rendered

  • Any other ad hoc duties as required


  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor Degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent from an accredited University.
    • Good understanding of immunology, molecular biology, cancer biology, medicine, bioinformatics, or related field
    • Hands-on experience in molecular techniques and in immunohistochemical staining will be an advantage
    • Knowledge or education in a field related to histology and/or anatomy, while not essential, will be considered favourably
    • Strong interpersonal skills and good team player
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams), Adobe, and Zoom
