Job Description

A bioinformatician/molecular microbiologist is sought to join a team working on metagenome-resolved biogeography and functional ecology of photosynthetic microbial communities under extreme environmental stress. 
The main responsibilities of the position include:
1.    Analysis of metagenomic sequence data with various packages using the R statistical environment.  
2.    General molecular microbiology laboratory work including DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, and sequence analysis.

The position is available for an initial period of 21 months, with renewal subject to performance and funding availability. 
 


Qualifications

•    Qualifications / Discipline:
BSc (hons) required, and preferably a MSc

•    Skills:
Competence in using R software for bioinformatic analysis of metagenomes is essential, e.g. MEGAN6. Some laboratory experience in molecular microbiology is also preferred but not essential.

•    Experience:  
At least one year of experience using computational bioinformatic tools in a research environment is required.
