Reporting to the Deputy Director, Innovation and Technology Transfer (ITT), to assist in the conceptualization and execution of strategies and innovation programmes in developing The Catalyst – a makerspace - into a vibrant training and prototyping facility for students and industry through which they gain creative and innovative skills in developing solutions to solve challenges in their fields of work. He/she is responsible for mentoring and coaching the students to run the Makerspace and creating a safe and welcoming environment. Also supporting ITT’s administrative and operational needs, and to support innovation initiatives through industry projects/events. The role is required to facilitate students and industry training, assist in prototyping projects undertaken by students, industry and SIT’s professional and technical specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver industry innovation programmes/ events/ hackathons that connect students and academic staff with industry to solve challenges and garner innovation projects for SIT.
  • Develop and deliver relevant training and certification programmes to empower students/industry to develop prototyping skills and to safely use the equipment and tools.
  • Provide an inviting and well-equipped collaborative Makerspace for industry and students to encourage innovation and support multidisciplinary thinking and skills development.
  • Work with SIT’s internal units to develop mentoring programmes to support students in developing ideas and prototyping skills, and to be student coaches to run Makerspace.
  • Build and leverage links with like minded organisations in Singapore to develop makers mindset.
  • Responsible for the budgeting and performance reporting of makerspace innovation programmes, certification and mentoring programmes.
  • Check, verify and submit and track invoices, claims & reimbursements to relevant departments for timely processing.
  • Ensure proper and regular filing and update of documents, standard operating procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Any other general administrative duties and responsibilities.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum a relevant degree, or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in delivering innovation or similar events/programmes to engage industry/students is preferred.
  • Experience in conducting training or coaching or in tinkering lab will be an advantage.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Positive work attitude, keen mind and preferably with some experience in design and technology related projects.
  • Good administrative, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Independent as well as a team player and self-driven to achieve results.
  • Meticulous with an eye for details, and able to work with tight deadlines.
  • Technical knowledge and skills on equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of workplace and lab safety standards.
