Job Description

The incumbent will provide support to the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following -

  • Fabricate and manufacture parts for members of the Physics department as well as for external users or entities.
  • Operate modern manufacturing equipment including but not limited to CNC machining, laser and wire cutting, and also traditional tools found in mechanical workshops.
  • In addition to workshop duties, the incumbent will assist in departmental administrative duties assigned by the workshop lead, professors/managers in the department or those specified by the Head of department or designate.

Qualifications
  • Possess a Precision Engineering Diploma from a Polytechnic or comparable work experience.
  • Experience in basic coding of CNC machines.
  • Ability to work with CAD design software.
  • Ability to use a CAM package to interact with CNC machines.
  • Possess hands on experience in understanding technical drawings and the ability to convert these drawings (CAD/CAM) into parts using various materials.
  • Experience in precision mechanical engineering, like milling, turning, drilling of various metals (Al, stainless steel, copper, brass) and polymer materials (PTFE, PEEK, PVC, PC, acrylic, etc).
