Job Description

 

NUS College (NUSC) is seeking a Laboratory Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of its science laboratories and enforce safety protocols in the science laboratories. The Laboratory Manager will be primarily responsible in supporting NUSC and NUS courses, as well as summer research internships of undergraduates and summer outreach programmes. The Laboratory manager may also be asked to support the research of faculty in a calibrated manner. More details are shown below:

 

  • Work closely with relevant faculty to manage the day-to-day operations of science laboratories, which may include purchasing materials and supplies, managing the maintenance of equipment, maintaining records and overseeing compliance with legal requirements.
  • Manage and maintain the science laboratories in good working conditions.
  • Ensure strict enforcement and adherence to safety protocols and regulations by all in the science laboratories.
  • Work closely with faculty to ensure teaching laboratory materials (chemicals, reagents, kits, equipment etc) are available as required.
  • Schedule the availability of and prepare apparatus, equipment, and other teaching materials as requested by the faculty.
  • Conducting trial runs for laboratory classes and support the running of laboratory classes. 
  • Prepare, maintain, and regularly update a repository of risk assessments/standard operating procedures (RA/SOP) documents and any other documents required for the science laboratories.
  • Be involved in teaching laboratory techniques, good scientific working practices, and, in particular, safety protocols to undergraduates.
  • Be present when undergraduates are working in the laboratory – especially in the absence of faculty and ensure they work safely.
  • Assist faculty in their research in a calibrated manner.
  • Assist faculty in the design of experiential components of STEM courses.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs.

  • Qualifications


    •    Master in Science or PhD, in experimental sciences 
    •    Relevant managerial experience in a science laboratory setting
    •    Familiarity with managing science laboratories is required. 
    •    Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
    •    Resourceful, independent, able to learn fast, and work well with others in a team
    •    Meticulous in record and inventory keeping with excellent organizational skills
    •    Good written and verbal communication skills
