Job Description

 

To assist in the renovations of the laboratory(ise), assist course coordinators in laboratory classes and provide support in the administration, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, tools, chemicals, consumables and technological systems (Inventory) in the Department of the Built Environment.


Duties and Responsibilities:
•    To assist in the renovations of the laboratory(ies)
•    To assist course coordinators in laboratory classes including demonstrating the usage of equipment
•    To conduct experiments, collect data, and provide support to the lab in terms of research, laboratory and administrative needs.
•    To carry out assigned experiments as part of ongoing projects in lab.
•    To organise, preserve and present the Inventory for the experiments.
•    To properly and systematically issue and control Inventory for all experiments; including write-off, procurement, asset tagging and disposal when required.
•    To analyse and plan further experiments under guidance.
•    To assist in supervising, training and guiding attachment/undergraduate students where required, in lectures, tutorials or research.
•    To be responsible for the general safety and cleanliness of the lab and maintenance of equipment through regular checks, audits, safety inspections, safety meetings, etc.
•    To ensure that standard operating procedures and safety regulations are followed as required by approving authorities and the university as a whole.
•    To plan and ensure that the overall lab administrative needs of the team are met.
•    To assist the Principal Investigator in tracking grants and other sources of funding.
•    Maintain a systematic and proper record of all purchases.
•    Liaising between the vendors and the administrative office to ensure proper purchase requisitions, goods delivery and prompt payment of supplies.
•    Any other tasks as and when assigned.

 

 


Job Requirements

 

•    A Bachelor’s degree in construction, building sciences, engineering or equivalent, with at least 1-2 years of working experience handling renovations or working in the laboratory(ies)
•    Able to multi-task, work independently and a good team player
•    Good interpersonal and organization skills
•    Analytical, meticulous and able to work under pressure
•    Proficient in MS Office applications and IT-savvy.
•    Good written and verbal communication skills.
