The School of Continuing and Lifelong Education (SCALE) was established to drive the expansion of NUS’ lifelong learning offerings in a concerted and strategic way that furthers our mission to be a leading global university, as well as fulfil our role as a public university of Singapore, shaping the future.

 

Through SCALE, working adults (i.e. professionals, managers and executives) who aspire to stay relevant and ahead of competition, companies looking to up-skill/re-skill their workforce, and even youths exploring quality tertiary education options, have access to NUS’ suite of innovative, world-class continuing and lifelong education offerings.

About the Role

 

As a Business Development and Marketing Manager at NUS SCALE, you will assume a pivotal role in driving our business expansion efforts in Singapore. 

 

Reporting directly to the Associate Director, you will assume a pivotal role in shaping and executing strategic initiatives aimed at driving growth and maximising our market potential. We are seeking a candidate with a diverse skill set, encompassing problem-solving, stakeholder management, marketing, communications and project management abilities. The successful candidate will exhibit traits of curiosity, collaboration and adaptability, particularly in a dynamic start-up environment. He/she should be results-driven, possess a clear vision, possess a deep understanding of the market landscape, and have the capability to craft a scalable business strategy. This strategy should encompass the growth of our sales pipeline in both B2B and B2C segments, effective client and internal stakeholder engagement, and the cultivation of enduring, successful relationships. 

 


This role is offered on a 3-year renewable contract basis in the first instance, with the prospect of a regular open employment contract thereafter subject to satisfactory job performance during the first 3 years. 

 

Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with an annual variable bonus which is subject to the incumbent’s performance and the University/School’s prevailing remuneration policies. 

 

The incumbent will be emplaced at an appropriate appointment grade based on his/her individual merits.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Business Development
•    Opportunity Development: Identify and define potential opportunities, develop comprehensive engagement plans, and oversee projects from inception to deal closure.
•    Market Insights: Stay updated on global industry trends and current events related to the future of work, extracting valuable insights to inform strategic decision-making.
•    Client and Partner Relationships: Cultivate and maintain strong, productive relationships with clients and partners, utilising market insights to strategically position NUS’ lifelong learning products.
•    Stakeholder Engagement: Lead demand-side engagements, fostering trust, collaboration, and exceptional customer experiences with both internal and external stakeholders.
•    Customer Advocate: Serve as the voice of the customer within the organisation, continuously sensing customer needs and market dynamics and effectively communicating these insights.
•    Cross-functional Collaboration: Build strong collaborative relationships across functions, working closely with SCALE's business units, as well as various NUS Schools, Faculties and Research Centres.
•    Value Proposition: Effectively convey NUS’ and SCALE’s value proposition to stakeholders.
•    Institution-building: Support critical institution-building projects that enable SCALE to fulfil its mission sustainably and at scale.

 

Marketing
•    Communications Strategy: Contribute to the development and execution of an integrated communications strategy, particularly for courses related to Placemaking and Sustainability.
•    Content Development: Create and curate content for various communication channels, focusing on Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses and youth programmes delivered by SCALE-Global.
•    Digital Marketing Collaboration: Collaborate with external agencies to drive the implementation of digital marketing initiatives to boost lead acquisition and conversions.
•    Brand Consistency: Ensure that marketing collaterals and messaging align with the NUS Corporate Identity guidelines.
•    Performance Analysis: Review digital marketing performance metrics and collaborate with external agencies to optimise campaigns for improved outcomes.
•    Stakeholder Relations: Foster strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining open lines of communication.


Requirements:

 

Academic & Professional Certification
•    Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a reputable university.
•    Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
•    Conversant in a second Asian language, (e.g., Chinese, Bahasa, Tagalog/Filipino, or Vietnamese), is an advantage. 
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

 

Experience & Attributes 
•    Demonstrated track record with a minimum of five to six years in project management within a fast-paced environment.
•    At least one year of commercial business development experience.
•    Previous experience in international executive education and/or programmes for youths, as well as conducting independent market research and analysis is a plus. 
•    Prior experience with content management systems such as Sitefinity, and customer relationship management systems such as Dynamics 365, is preferred.
•    Passionate and enthusiastic to contribute to a mission aimed at transforming the higher education landscape.
•    Possess an entrepreneurial mindset, intellectual curiosity, a high degree of collaboration, and an adventurous spirit.
•    Confident to make informed decisions, stand by them and take ownership of choices.
•    Willing to take necessary actions, even in challenging or unfavourable situations, to achieve positive outcomes.
•    Possess the courage to provide direct and actionable feedback in a clear and respectful manner to foster growth and improvement.
•    Exceptional project management skills to oversee multiple workstreams and engage with senior-level stakeholders in diverse settings.
•    Highly self-motivated with the capability to work independently and efficiently.
•    Strong desire for success, with a commitment to continual personal and professional development. 
•    Comfortable with ambiguity; as a rapidly growing business, uncharted territories are to be expected, and the candidate should embrace the dynamic and evolving nature of the role.
