Location: Kent Ridge,
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Short Description

The National University of Singapore (NUS), through the University Campus Infrastructure (UCI), aims to be an urban living lab through its Smart, Safe & Sustainable (S3) Campus vision. To demonstrate the University’s environmental stewardship role, NUS has developed a Sustainability and Climate Action Plan 2030 that encompasses three signature programmes – Carbon Neutral Campus, CoolNUS and Zero-Waste NUS.

The Zero-Waste NUS Action Plan aims to divert 90 per cent of campus waste away from incineration plants by 2030. The campus will have a few Zero-Waste precincts where waste sorting for recycling and reuse become a way-of-life at key touchpoints (e.g. residences, F&B outlets, common areas). Recycling will be at a high for food, packaging, horticulture and e-waste streams and key single-use disposables phased out in dining establishments. To further divert waste from incineration plants, NUS is exploring to implement emerging circular economy technologies on campus to recover energy and useful by-products. At the heart of the Plan is the drive to instil behavioural change throughout the University where students conscientiously sort and recycle their waste in student accommodations and deepen their involvement through inter-disciplinary testbeds to turn waste into useful resources.

UCI is inviting enterprising, committed individuals who are passionate about sustainability issues to partner us in developing and implementing projects to meet the ambitious targets set out in the Zero-Waste NUS programme.
