Start Date: as soon as possible
We are seeking a well-organised and highly motivated individual with excellent communication and strong administrative and IT skills to work as an Alumni Relations and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Coordinator within the Alumni Relations Team, as part of the wider Alumni and Supporter Engagement Team in Development. Note that the acronym BAME is one of the terms utilised within UK higher education for people of colour or underrepresented racial minority, for example the University Student/Staff BAME Network.
As well as providing core support to the Alumni Relations team, this post holder will be responsible for the effective development of our BAME engagement programme, including the BAME alumni network activities, assisting with fundraising projects linked to diversity and developing new initiatives linked to our BAME engagement strategy. Excellent administrative skills are essential, as well as the motivation to deliver on complex projects. Careful attention to detail, discretion in handling confidential material and a good understanding of the importance of alumni relations and fundraising to the University are also essential.
Ideally, the successful applicant will have previous experience in working within a complex, multi-stakeholder organisation and will bring knowledge of promoting a diverse working culture within that. Currently home-based due to Covid restrictions, the post will normally be based in the St Andrews Development Office. The role holder will be required to manage the dual demands of providing administrative assistance to the Alumni Relations team whilst working across the department as needed to ensure that BAME initiatives are in place throughout Development. Excellent interpersonal skills and the confidence to communicate with both internal and external visitors of all levels of seniority are essential. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to all aspects of the Development team’s activities, as required, and have a positive attitude towards working across a range of projects and with different teams in Development and across the University.
Further information and informal enquiries may be directed to Laura Gordon Head of Alumni and Supporter Engagement, email: [email protected] , Tel: 01334 462002.
Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in professional posts at the University.
Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience. We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter, Race Charters and Stonewall). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network.
