INEGI – Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering is a Research and Technology Organisation (RTO), focused on research and technology-based innovation activities, technology transfer, consulting and technological services, oriented to the development of industry and economy in general. We are currently looking for one (1) Researcher, under the scope of EMB3RS, ZYPHO 4.0 and PRODUTECH4S&C projects, financed through the EU Programme Horizon 2020 and by the Copromotion Programme PT2020 from ANI, respectively.

Projects Description:

EMB3RS is a research project aiming to explore solutions for the recovery of excess industrial heat and cold in intra- and inter-sectorial systems (www.emb3rs.eu ) and to develop a tool to find the most cost-effective solutions for the recovery and use of excess heat and cold through the identification of compatible and geographically close donors and users. The project, coordinated by INEGI, has 16 partners from 7 European countries and 7 case studies of application in Portugal, Greece, Sweden, United Kingdom and Denmark.

ZYPHO 4.0 aims to answer to a set of critical market challenges and gaps and develop an innovative, modular and eco-efficient system for the recovery and storage of thermal energy in service buildings. The goal is to incorporate automation and control systems, to develop energy management software tools that allow monitoring the performance of thermal energy recovery and storage technologies, as well as to support the integrated management of thermal energy production and consumption through predictive control algorithms, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning that enable constant process optimisation and facilitate user decision making.

Finally, the PRODUTECH4S&C Mobilising Project is a response from the sector of technologies production towards the construction of a circular and sustainable manufacturing industry. It advocates the development of differentiating solutions, in response to the urgency of the industry's transformation towards sustainability and circular economy, enabling this sector to assume a key position in a global niche: production technologies that facilitate circularity and industrial sustainability.

What is the challenge?

Reinforce INEGI’s competences in the field of thermal energy and heat recovery, integrating programming and simulation skills.

What are the objectives the challenge?

To participate and execute the activities foreseen in the three projects mentioned above, namely the ones related to the development of algorithms and programming modules for optimization and management of thermal energy in industry and system integration of different forms of energy;

- To participate in the design and development of innovation and research projects in the are of energy use and industry decarbonization;

- To support the writing of scientific reports and papers.

What we are looking for?

  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or in related areas;
  • Knowledge in the area of thermal energy in industrial processes;
  • Knowledge of heat recovery systems and industrial symbiosis;
  • Knowledge programming, preferably Phyton, and other programming languages;
  • Knowledge of software for simulation and optimization of thermal industrial processes;
  • Orientation towards objectives;
  • Strong interpersonal and multidisciplinary communication skills;
  • Excellent ability to carry out independent work;
  • Excellent working, planning and organisational skills;
  • Polivalence and flexibility to adapt to new realities;
  • Good use of MS Office;
  • Portuguese and English Language: High priority, very good level (spoken and written);
