The Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge, I.P. (INSA), Department of Health Promotion and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases, opens a call for the attribution of a research grant for graduate degree, reference HR23-00749; PerMedFH-BI/01, under the project “Personalizing diagnosis and treatment for Familial Hypercholesterolaemia patients, funded by the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge, IP.

Admission requirements:

- Candidates with a Master's degree

- Enrolled in a non-degree course in 2024 in an area relevant to the project

- Minimum of 3 years' experience in molecular biology in the area of genetic dyslipidemia

- Availability to spend 3-6 months training in La Reunion, France

 

 


Specific Requirements

Preferred requirements:

  • Experience in genetic diagnosis of familial dyslipidemia
  • Experience in isolating lymphocytes from peripheral blood samples
  • Experience in molecular biology, specifically PCR, NGS and nucleic acid extraction
  • Experience in flow cytometry
  • Experience in cell culture
  • Experience in managing databases with clinical data
  • Good knowledge of English (spoken and written)
  • High sense of responsibility;
  • Ease of relationship, communication and teamwork;
  • Immediate availability.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance amount:

The value of the grant corresponds to 1199,64€ (one thousand one hundred and ninety-nine euros and sixty-four cents), as per the FCT, I.P. (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ), under the terms established in the Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação, approved by the Portuguese Law no. 123/2019, of August 18, and Personal Accident Insurance or equivalent. The value of the grant can be increased up to a maximum of 30% of the value indicated by the FCT, according to the professional experience of the candidate.

 


Eligibility criteria

- Enrolled in a non-degree course in 2024 in an area relevant to the project

- Minimum of 3 years' experience in molecular biology in the area of genetic dyslipidemia

- Availability to spend 3-6 months training in La Reunion, France

 

 


Selection process

The evaluation will focus on the assessment of academic training and professional experience in the areas indicated above, with the curriculum evaluation being carried out with a value from 0 to 20. In case of doubts regarding the training and experience required, the Jury may request additional supporting documentation or, if it deems it necessary, it may call the candidates best classified in the curriculum evaluation for an interview. If a selection interview is carried out, the criteria for evaluating the candidates and their respective weighting will be as follows: 60% curriculum evaluation and 40% interview.

 


Additional comments

Work plan:

1.  Management of databases and biobanks of biological samples and associated clinical data;

2.  Molecular study of dyslipidemias by NGS;

3.  Isolation of lymphocytes from peripheral blood samples;

4.  Maintaining patient lymphocyte cultures and collaborating in drug trials with statins and/or PCSK9 inhibitors;

5.  Flow cytometry assays (FACS);

6.  Collaborating in the preparation and writing of reports, abstracts and scientific articles for communication of results at scientific meetings and collaborating in the project's dissemination activities.

The Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação, approved by the Portuguese Law No. 123/2019, of 18 August, without prejudice to other legislation in force and the Institution's internal operating rules.

 

Workplace:

The work will be carried out at the Department of Health Promotion and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases of the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge, IP.
