Offer Description

At this moment, iMM is looking for a Flow Cytometry Technician to join the Flow Cytometry Unit (https://imm.medicina.ulisboa.pt/facility/flowcytometry ) coordinated Mariana Fernandes, under the Associate Laboratory statute within funding reference LA/P/0082/2020through national funds (FCT-OE), to execute the following activities under the supervision of Mariana Fernandes:

  • Run Cell Sorters/Analyzers to meet the needs of users;
  • Purification of cell populations by flow cytometry (cell sorting);
  • Provide comprehensive training in Flow Cytometry basic concepts, data analysis and use of flow cytometry analyzers to researchers;
  • Provide support and technical advice on flow cytometry, experimental design, panel design, protocol optimization and execution to researchers;
  • Provide training in imaging flow cytometry to researchers;
  • Provide support in flow cytometry software and data analysis;
  • Maintenance and quality control and quality assurance of all flow cytometry instruments and experiments in the Facility;
  • Management of reports and data backups;
  • General lab organization and administrative tasks;
  • Participate in activities directed to external people, such as courses, visits to the Facility or Flow Cytometry-related demonstrations.

    Skills/Qualifications

    We are looking for a highly-motivated person, passionate by science, interested by technology, eager to learn and to solve problems, with personal competences to work in a service-based environment, with good inter-personal skills and high degree of initiative.

  • MSc degree in Immunology, Biology, Chemistry or related field (Mandatory);
  • Previous experience in Flow Cytometry (Preferential requirement);
  • Previous  experience in cell separation by flow  cytometry (Cell Sorting) (Preferential requirement);
  • Knowledge of the common flow cytometry softwares (FACSDiva,  SpectroFlo, INSPIRE,  FlowJo, FCS Express, IDEAS) will be valued;
  • Previous research lab experience is a plus;
  • Ability to use computers (Mac and PC);
  • Capacity to work both independently and as a part of a team;
  • Good communication skills and interaction in an environment with multiple users;
  • High commitment and a collaborative attitude;
  • Troubleshooting capacity and attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of spoken and written English.

    Benefits

    What iMM offers: iMM will offer outstanding working conditions in this area in Portugal, including a full-time contract, starting predictably in April 2024, and the possibility to work in the interface of research and research support facilities.

    Working Conditions: - Unfixed Term contract for an estimated duration of 12 (twelve) months; - Gross monthly salary of 1.140€, in accordance with the project budget and iMM Career By-Law plus meal allowance for each working day in the daily amount of 6€. Also, to the candidate will be paid Holidays and Christmas allowances. The indicated amounts will be subject to the mandatory taxes accordingly to Portuguese Labor Law.

    Selection process

    Evaluation Criteria: Applications will be evaluated by Mariana Fernandes, Marc Veldhoen and José Rino, in accordance with the following method:

    • 1st Phase: Curricular evaluation (30%) and Motivation Letter (20%);
    • 2nd Phase: Interview (50%). Only candidates who score at least 30% in phase 1 will be selected for interview.

    Results: Both admitted and excluded candidates list and final classification list shall be posted at iMM website at https://imm.medicina.ulisboa.pt/jobs/#results and all admitted candidates will be notified by email. 

    Preliminary Hearing and Final Decision Deadline: After notification, all candidates have 10 working days to respond. Panel’s final decisions are pronounced within a period of 90 days, from application deadline.

    The present call is exclusively aimed at filling the indicated vacancy and may be terminated until the homologation of the final candidates' ranking list and expires with the respective occupation of the position on offer.
