The Centro de Investigação e Estudos de Sociologia (CIES-Iscte) of Iscte -Instituto Universitário de Lisboa is calling for applications for a PhD Student Research Scholarship under the project reference PTDC/HAR-HIS/3580/2021, entitled ‘CINCRA - International collaborations: crime and police cooperation in the Ibero-American Atlantic, c. 1870-1921’, financed exclusively by national funds through the State Budget [financial support from the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. /MCTES through national PIDDAC funds]. 1870-1940", financed exclusively by national funds through the State Budget [financial support from the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. /MCTES through national PIDDAC funds], under the following conditions:

Skills/Qualifications
a) Research experience in Contemporary History, with special emphasis on historical archives related to Criminal Justice and Diplomacy in the field of police collaborations and criminal justice.
b) Good knowledge of digital tools for historical research.
c) Proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese and English.

Admission requirements:
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree in one of the areas of Contemporary History and be enrolled in a PhD programme in History (in accordance with Article 6 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (Reg. no. 950/2019).
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries need to be registered by a Portuguese institution, in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16 August and Ministerial Order no. 33/2019 of 25 January. Benefits
Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance:
The amount of the grant corresponds to €1,259.64 according to the table of grant amounts awarded by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ). The amount of the grant is increased by the corresponding voluntary social insurance, if the candidate chooses to take it out, as well as personal accident insurance. The grant will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
Duration of the scholarship
The scholarship will last for 6 months. The scholarship contract may be renewed within the research project's duration and in accordance with the stipulations of point 4 of Article 6 of the Research Scholarship Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force.
Selection process
Selection methods:
The selection process will be based on curricular assessment. If several candidates demonstrate that they have the right profile to carry out the work plan, the jury reserves the right to call the three best-placed candidates in the curricular assessment for an interview, which will have a weighting of 40 % in the final grade. If the jury deems it unnecessary to hold interviews, the final weighting of the curricular assessment will be 100 %.
The curricular assessment criteria are based on:
a) academic record (40%);
b) research experience (30%);
c) the experience demonstrated in the items indicated in the preferential factors (30%).
The curricular assessment of the candidates will be carried out in accordance with the criteria indicated and will be carried out on an integer scale between 0 and 20.
The selection board reserves the right to:
a) invite the highest-scoring candidate to the position in question, following the order established in the final ranking list, whenever the selected candidate does not meet the requirements for formalising the contract or in the event of unavailability;
b) not awarding the grant if none of the candidates matches the desired profile.

Composition of the Selection Panel:
Candidates will be selected by a jury made up of: Dr Maria João Vaz (CIES-Iscte/Iscte - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa), who will preside, and the members Dr Gonçalo Rocha Gonçalves (Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro) and Dr Fábio Faria (CIES-Iscte/Iscte - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa).
Notification of results:
The results of the assessment will be publicised by means of a list of those admitted and excluded and a final ranking list, with all candidates being notified by email. The Hearing of Interested Parties will take place within 10 working days of the results being announced.
