Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT Polish Center for Technology Development is a Research Institute within the Łukasiewicz Research Network. It focuses on development of new technologies, resulting from basic and applied research, which, in turn, serve as a basis for innovative solutions for the industry. With high-class specialists and state-of-art infrastructure, we provide capacity for the most advanced research. Our Institute consists of three research centers – Life Sciences & Biotechnology Center, Materials Science & Engineering Center and Center for Population Diagnostics,  with access to specialized core laboratories – a combination, which allows to carry out both, scientific research and pilot studies for the industry in a comprehensive manner.

The laboratory led by Dr Julio Aguado located at the Life Science Biotechnology Center (LSnBC) focuses on dissecting the mechanisms of aging in the context of viral infections. The position will involve studying the mechanisms of virus-induced senescence using state-of-the-art iPSC-derived organoid and assembloid models. This project focuses on the use of reverse genetics systems to genome engineer human viruses to understand the mechanisms that drive virus-induced accelerated aging.

Requirements:

  • PhD in genetics/genomics, molecular biology, neuroscience, proteomics/biochemistry, or other related fields;
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or several of the following areas:
    • Single cell transcriptomics and/or spatial biology,
    • iPSC-based model systems for neuroscience applications including neuronal 2D and 3D cultures,
    • Organoid and/or assembloid generation and maintenance,
    • Genome engineering tools such as CRISPR, reverse genetics and/or base editing;
  • Proficiency in basic molecular biology including cloning, cell culture, immunostaining, and microscopy;
  • Extensive experience in Biosafety level 2 and 3 experimentation;
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, and familiarity with one or multiple programming languages including R/python/MATLAB;
  • Track record of original research papers;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork, great work organization and communication skills.
  • Experience in working in foreign laboratories will be considered as an additional advantage.
