RECTOR of the Jagiellonian University announces a selection procedure for the position of an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
Project title: CatchT21: Deciphering molecular basis of RNA amplification in pathogenesis of Trisomy 21, OPUS 24 K/NCN/000303
Project description:
The research group is located at the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology, Krakow.
The aim of the projectis to undersand gene expression regulation in response to abnormal DNA content, using trisomy of ch21 as a model. The selected candidate will investigate how transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of RNA change in cells with additional chr21 and identify identify key genes involved in this process. The project will use iPS cells, modern functional genomics methods, molecular biology techniques and siRNA screens.
Planned duration of employment: 42 months
Expected date of employment commencement: June 2024
Scope of duties:
according to the Work Regulations of the Jagiellonian University Annex 1 to the Work Regulations of the Jagiellonian University – Model scopes of responsibilities and duties of academic teachers
The successful candidate’s daily tasks will include:
1. Planning and conducting experimental work and documenting it in the electronic lab book
2. Close collaboration with a PhD student.
3. Presenting results internally and at conferences, writing publications.
4. Staying up to date with relevant papers.
5. Participation in organizing laboratory work.

The selection procedure is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:
- holding at least a doctoral degree;
- having relevant scientific achievements;
- taking active part in scientific life.

Eligibility and project criteria:
The candidate must meet requirements of "Regulations on awarding funding for research tasks funded by the National Science Centre as regards research projects”, that is:
• obtained a doctoral degree in the year of employment in the project or in the period of 7 years before January 1, 2024 (This period may be extended by a time of long-term (in excess of 90 days) documented sick leaves or rehabilitation leaves granted on account of being unfit to work. In addition, the period may be extended by the number of months of a child care leave granted pursuant to the Labour Code and in the case of women, by 18 months for every child born or adopted, whichever manner of accounting for career breaks is preferable.)
• Dr Magdalena Masłoń was not a supervisor or assistant supervisor of candidate’s doctoral dissertation.
• obtained a doctoral degree in an entity other than Jagiellonian University, or completed at least 10-month, continuous and documented post-doctoral internship in an entity other than Jagiellonian University and in a country other than the country of obtaining the doctoral degree.
Candidate’s profile:
1. Several years of experience in the molecular biology or cell biology lab.
2. Good to have: bioinformatics skills and/or experience in CRISPR/Cas9 technology, microscopy, genomics
3. At least one first-author paper
4. Ability to work in a team, a respectful and kind attitude to team members.
5. Motivation, passion, creativity, ability to independently plan work
6. Great presentation skills.
7. Fluent command of English

Selection process
The first stage of the selection procedure is the formal assessment of the submitted documents. Applications which meet all formal requirements are the subject of substantive assessment, during which an interview with the Candidate may be conducted (directly or via electronic communication channels), upon settling the date of the interview with the Candidate. The Candidate has the right to appeal against the negative assessment by the selection board within 7 days from receiving the information about the results of the assessment.
