Researcher 1108 in Informatics – Computational Biology

There is a vacancy for a position as researcher 1108 in Informatics - Computational Biology at the Department of Informatics at the University of Bergen.

The position is for a period of 10 months and is associated with the project “Combining cutting edge technologies for target discovery in brain tumors”. We are looking for candidates who can start as early as possible, preferably from mid-May 2024.

About the project/work tasks

The working environment for this position will be at CBU, in the “Causal inference in computational and systems biology group headed” by Prof. Tom Michoel. The work will contribute to CBU’s research themes “Mathematical modelling” and “Precision medicine” and will be carried out in close collaboration with researchers at the Department of Biomedicine and Haukeland University Hospital.

The overall aim of the project is to identify new drug targets/drugs for glioblastoma (GBM), the most malignant and most frequent primary brain tumor, by combining breakthrough technologies from machine learning (ML), bioinformatics, single cell and spatial transcriptomics, organoids, and biotechnology.

The person appointed on this position will use causal inference and ML algorithms to identify causal gene regulatory networks in GBM long-term survivors compared to short-term survivors and link these networks to specific tumor/stromal subpopulations by screening single cell/spatial transcriptomics data.

More information about the research group can be found on its website.
