Research assistant

There is a vacancy for a research assistant at the System Dynamics Group, Department of Geography, University of Bergen. The position is fulltime for a fixed-term period of 9 months. Total employment as a research assistant cannot exceed two years.

Research assistant is a recruitment position where the main task is to be a supporting entity to the academic staff in their instructional and research endeavors. The position will provide the opportunity to gain insight into scientific work and methodology.



Job description
  • Development, analysis and communication of a hybrid model for food systems in Norway combining System Dynamics and Agent-based modelling
  • Preparation of model documentation and model testing reports including information detailed in the section ‘Quality Assurance and Testing’
  • Development of a user manual explaining a) how to input data in the model, b) how to change assumptions in the model, c) how to generate the model results and d) any other specific instruction needed to run the model as intended
  • Contribution to the project “Investigating the Socioeconomic Impacts of Aging Populations”
  • Completion of 60 hours of teaching assistance time.


Requirements:
  • The applicant must hold a master’s degree in system dynamics. The master’s thesis must have been submitted by the application deadline
  • The requirements are generally a grade B or better on the Master thesis and for the master’s degree in total
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English
  • Good understanding of both System Dynamics and Agent Based Modelling
  • Experience using Anylogic and Netlogo
  • Familiarity with the socioeconomic system and culture of Japan and/or Iran
  • Knowledge of Japanese and/or Persian is a plus
  • Good administrative and IT-competence.
