About the position...



Duties/tasks:
  • Perform bioinformatic services for GCF-users, such as planning experimental designs and analysis of NGS data across various platforms, including exome sequencing, whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, Single cell sequencing, and 16S metagenome sequencing.
  • Developing, updating, and benchmarking analysis tools and pipelines to ensure accurate and efficient processing of genomics data in collaboration with ELIXIR Norway.
  • Maintaining and evolving systems for data storage and management, covering logging, reporting, sharing, transfer, and secure deletion of data.
  • Training GCF-users and teaching within courses and workshops.

Other tasks may be included.



Qualifications and personal attributes:
  • The applicant must hold an MSc. degree or PhD in Bioinformatics or a closely related field. In exceptional cases, a well-qualified candidate with a bachelor's degree and corresponding practical experience may be considered.
  • Bioinformatics tools and pipelines for NGS-data: Must have good knowledge about and/or practical experience with different bioinformatic tools and pipelines for handling and analysis of NGS-data, such as whole genome (WGS)-data, exome (WES)-data, and RNA-sequencing (RNA-Seq). This includes tools like GATK, FastQC, BWA, SAM-tools, HiSAt, STAR, CellRanger, VEP, and proficiency in using R/Python packages for data analysis and visualization. Experience with the DRAGEN Bio-IT platform is considered advantageous.
  • Programming language: Must have experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, R, shell/awk scripting), along with knowledge of technologies like git and docker.
  • Pipeline development: Experience in the development and management of pipelines on Linux-based operating systems is desirable.
  • Workflow tools: Knowledge of Nextflow, snakemake, and singularity is desirable for efficient data analysis and workflow management.
  • Knowledge databases: Familiarity with relevant public databases such as NCBI, ENSEMBL, DDBJ, ClinVar, etc. is desirable.
  • Language skills: The candidate must possess fluent speaking and writing skills in English. Communication skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language are considered advantageous.'

  • Principal engineer salary NOK 480 900 – 516 800 (code 1085, pay grade 47-52, with bachelor’s degree), salary NOK 524 700 – 565 900 (code 1085, pay grade 53- 58, with master’s degree).
  • Head engineer salary NOK 575 400 – 604 900 (code 1087, pay grade 59-62, with bachelor’s/ master’s degree), salary NOK 575 400 – 646 000 (code 1087, pay grade 59-66, with PhD-degree).
  • Senior engineer salary NOK 646 000 – 692 400 (code 1181, pay grade 66-72 with master’s degree), salary NOK 646 000 – 720 100 (code 1181, pay grade 66-72, with PhD-degree)
  • Salary gross p.a. for a full-time position in the state salary scale. In the case of a highly qualified applicant, a higher salary may be considered.
  • Enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund
