Postdoctoral Research Fellow

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Medicine, a position as Postdoctoral Fellow (100%) is available for a period of for three (3) years. The position is part of the project: “Modelling of diabetes progression to complications employing clinical, GWAS and proteomics data analyses of Norwegian Adult Diabetes Registry”. The position is placed at Center for Diabetes Research as a part of a new Mohn Research Center for Precision Diabetes Medicine (PRECISE-DIA) in Bergen (https://www.uib.no/en/diabetes ). The project will be in collaboration with the department of mathematics and bioinformatics at UiB.

About the project/work tasks:
  • Large-scale patient data analyses of risk factors for diabetes and related complications in the Norwegian Adult Diabetes Registry
  • Large-scale omics analyses using GWAS and Somalogic proteomics for diabetes related phenotypes, i.e. clinical factors and vascular complications
  • Modelling of different omic data, i.e. genetics, transcriptomes, and proteomes using standard regression approaches, and machine learning tools to predict treatment response and risk for diabetes complications
  • Actively participating in bioinformatics networks in Scandinavian collaborative consortia and supervising biomedical master and PhD students

 


Qualifications and personal qualities:
  • The applicant must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within (bio)statistics, bioinformatics, mathematics, computer science or a related field, or have the doctoral thesis submitted prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded at the latest within five months after the closing date for applications.
  • Very good knowledge in statistics and mathematics is required
  • Programming knowledge is required
  • Experience from GWAS analyses is required
  • Experience in counseling, teaching, grant applications writing is an advantage
  • Experience in diabetes research is an advantage
  • The applicant must be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to cooperate with others
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English is required

About the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow:

The position of postdoctoral research fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. Postdoctoral fellowships are fixed term positions. You can not be employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than one fixed term period at the same institution. Also, you cannot be employed in a postdoctoral position if you have previously held this type of position at a different institution in the region.


Upon appointment, applicants must submit a project proposal for the qualifying work including a work schedule. It is a requirement that the project is completed in the course of the period of employment. The employee may be assigned required duties in the form of teaching and similar work at the department.
