Offer Description
The position
A postdoc position is available at the Department of Computer Science at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
The position is a fixed term position for a duration of 3 years. Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant can carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution.
Goal: Contribute broadly to research on statistical learning tools and methods as applied in antimicrobial resistance research. A typical problem setting is high-dimension, low sample size data such as genomics and trancriptomics. There is particular interest in systems-biological insights derived from combining data sources such as these.
Start date: You must be able to start in the position within reasonable time after receiving the offer. We want the candidate to start as soon as possible, preferably within 4 months.
The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø
The position's field of research
The candidate will contribute broadly to the development of statistical-/machine learning methodology and tools for the identification, description, and understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
An area of particular interest is the development of interpretable methodology for molecular omic data, eg., gene sequences (DNA), genetic expression (mRNA), and regulators of genetic expression (microRNAs, DNA methylation, etc.), but we are interested in all methodological questions related to complex data in AMR research: Particularly modern data-analytic problems arise from our increasing ability take massively parallel measurements (genetic expression, microbiome populations, etc.) and from our increasing interests in modelling things that do not easily map onto a design matrix such (graphs, dynamics, longitudinal observations, etc.).
Working environment
The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team including colleagues in biostatistics, epidemiology, microbiology and computer science through the Health Data Lab and the Centre for New Antibacterial Strategies .
The Health Data Lab does interdisciplinary research combining machine learning and experimental computer science with real problems, applications, and data obtained from our biomedical research collaborators.
The Centre for New Antibacterial strategies is a large strategic interdisciplinary centre at UiT - the Arctic University of Norway for research, education, innovation and dissemination related to antimicrobial resistance.
