The position

At the Faculty of Biosciences, Fishery and Economics (BFE), UiT The Arctic University of Norway has a vacant position as postdoctoral fellow position attached to The Norwegian College of Fishery Science (NCFS) and the research group MRØ , connected to the research project Dsolve . 

The position is a fixed term position for a duration of three years. Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant is able to carry out the research associated with the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution. 

The appointed Postdoctoral Fellow must have its daily workplace at UiT - The Arctic University of Norway, campus Tromsø. You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving the offer.

The Norwegian College of Fishery Science (NCFS) undertakes research and research-based teaching of high national and international quality in an interdisciplinary environment. Research activity is provisionally organized into the groups of: Living Marine Resources, Sea Food Science, Fish Health, Marine Drug Discovery, Resource Management, Marine Management, and Environmental and Resource Economics.

MRØ , The Environmental and Resource Economics research group, carries out research in marine resource economics, covering environmental, fisheries and aquaculture economics. Approaches applied include bioeconomic modelling, valuation, econometrics, cost-benefit and risk analysis, applied to fisheries and aquaculture in Norway as well as globally. The candidate will take part in the activities of the research group.


The position's field of research

The postdoctoral fellow will work with economic research related to work package 4 in the research project Dsolve . This research should relate to the economics and management aspects of the application of biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials in fisheries and aquaculture. Relevant areas of research include bioeconomic modelling, valuation, econometric and cost-benefit analysis within the fields of natural resource and environmental economics.

Qualifications

Required qualifications: 

  • A Norwegian doctoral degree (PhD) in environmental or natural resource economics or another relevant area, or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree. Qualification with a PhD is required before commencement in the position. If you’re at the final stages of your PhD, you may still apply if you have submitted your PhD thesis for doctoral degree evaluation within the application deadline. You must submit the thesis with your application. You must have dissertated before the start-up date of the position.
  • Experience from bioeconomic modelling, valuation and/or econometric analysis within the fields of natural resource and environmental economics
  • Fluency in English
     

Desired qualifications: 

  • Research experience in fisheries and aquaculture economics
  • Working knowledge of Norwegian or a Scandinavian language
     

During the assessment emphasis will be put on the candidate’s motivation, potential for research, and personal suitability for the position. We are looking for candidates who:

When applying for a postdoctoral research fellowship, the applicant must submit a project proposal (up to 5 pages long) for the qualifying work. The project proposal shall describe how you scientifically can contribute to the Dsolve project. This proposal shall include a progress plan. It is required that the applicant will be able to complete the project during the period of appointment.

In the assessment the main emphasis will be attached to the submitted works and the project proposal for the qualifying work. Emphasis shall also be attached to experience from popularization/dissemination and academic policy and administrative activity.

    Assessment

    The applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee's mandate is to undertake an assessment of the applicants' qualifications based on the written material presented by the applicants, and the detailed description draw up for the position.

    The applicants who are assessed as best qualified will be called to an interview. The interview should among other things, aim to clarify the applicant’s motivation and personal suitability for the position. A trial lecture may also be held.

    The remuneration for Postdoctoral research fellow is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1352. A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.
