About the job

The postdoctoral fellowship is a temporary 2-year 100 % position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.

The position is a related to The Trondheim Early Secure Study (TESS), a longitudinal study of child and adolescent psychosocial development, mental health, and health behaviors. TESS has followed a community sample of approximately one thousand children from the 2003 and 2004 birth cohorts in Trondheim, conducting thorough assessments every other year since the children were 4 years old. Participants are now 19-20 years old, and the study is still ongoing. 

The aim of the postdoctoral project is to examine how social media use affect development of self-esteem, social relations, mental health, and health behavior. Social media use and relevant outcomes have been biennially assessed since the participants were 10 years old. Data from two international datasets may also be used in the project.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be part of the TESS (tess - NTNU ) research group, who currently consists of 8 researchers, 3 postdoc's and 9 PhD candidates, in addition to the research assistants responsible for data collection.

Your immediate leader is Head of Department.

Duties of the position

• Reviewing relevant theory and research
• Analysis of longitudinal data, particularly focusing on between-person and within-person effects
• Writing and publishing scientific papers
• Research dissemination
   

Required selection criteria

• You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree in psychology or related fields, or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in psychology or related fields. If it is documented that the PhD thesis has been submitted, the application can be assessed even if the applicant has not yet defended the thesis. Documentation of the obtained doctoral degree must be presented before the position can be taken up.
• Strong academic background in developmental psychology or clinical child- and adolescent psychology
• Experience with publishing in international journals
• Good quantitative data analysis skills, including experience with longitudinal analyses
• Good written and oral proficiency in English
   

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D Candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate.

Preferred selection criteria

• Knowledge about adolescents’ use of social media
• Knowledge about psychosocial development and mental health in adolescence 
• Experience with the TESS study or comparable longitudinal studies
• Good written and oral proficiency in Norwegian

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 594 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund

The period of employment is 2 years.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants , and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.  

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The position is subject to external funding.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.

• A copy of the doctoral thesis. If you are close to submitting, or have recently submitted your thesis, you can attach a draft of the thesis. Documentation of a completed doctoral degree must be presented before taking up the position.
• Academic works - published or unpublished - that you would like to be considered in the assessment (up to 10 items)

Joint works will be considered. If it is difficult to identify your contribution to joint works, you must attach a brief description of your participation. 

In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal and interpersonal qualities. Motivation, ambitions, and potential will also count in the assessment of the candidates.
