About the job

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.

The Department of Marine Technology  at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has a vacancy for a postdoctoral fellow for the project: Innovative design and operation for rare earth material reduction and optimized lifetime for next generation offshore wind-based hydrogen production (INSPIRE). INSPIRE project is born in response to the priority area “Development of offshore marine multi-use infrastructures to support the blue economy” which is part of the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership program.

INSPIRE consists of an international consortium of industrial and research partners with main objectives of optimizing green hydrogen system design methodology with minimum need of rare earth materials (REE) and to contribute to a pathway towards implementation of such designs in future frameworks, policy, and industrial standards for EU.

The scope of this job vacancy is to mainly address the objectives under the work package 5 (WP 5) which is led by NTNU and aims to contribute to development of road maps for REE reduction in wind-hydrogen system. This requires highly interdisciplinary education and skills, both technical and non-technical, and an understanding of different stakeholders. There will be a close collaboration with partners in Belgium and Germany and other stakeholders in Norway and EU. The candidate will be a part of a larger research group working closely with other ongoing relevant projects, i.e. ICONIC and Made4Wind.

Your immediate leader is Head of the Department.

Duties of the position

  • contribution to road maps and standardization of floating offshore wind development
  • close interdisciplinary collaboration with research and technical teams in Norway, Belgium, and Germany 
  • writing of academic articles and preparation and presentation of project outputs and deliverables
  • participation in academic outreach activities (workshops/conferences)

Required selection criteria

  • norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in mechanical and industrial engineering, or marine engineering
  • strong interdisciplinary education, research and experience which to cover technical, social, and cultural aspects of marine technology development
  • experience in interdisciplinary collaborations in the marine technology field
  • experience about the road maps for floating offshore wind development
  • familiar and experience with the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership program
  • familiar and experience with energy islands
  • excellent written and oral English skills

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D Candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate.

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 594 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund

The period of employment is 3 years.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants , and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.  

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The position is subject to external funding.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
