About the job

The postdoctoral fellowship position is related to the project "Predicting Care Needs of Older Adults in the Healthcare System through AI-Enabled Analysis of Patient-Monitoring Data (PAI)". 

The PAI project, aims to predict and enhance the care of older adults by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse patient-monitoring data for early detection of health and functional decline. It is designed to address the increasing healthcare demands due to an aging population. By implementing AI-driven predictive models, the project seeks to facilitate early interventions and appropriate care level involvement, thereby reducing acute care costs and improving patient outcomes. 

The PAI project involves partners in Norway, Spain, and Sweden and is led by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). It is funded by THCS , and spans from November 2024 to October 2027.

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions. The appointment has a duration of two years and four months. It is possible to be located at NTNUs campus either in Ålesund or Trondheim.  A key goal for the position will be identifying and preparing large amounts of relevant healthcare data and, developing innovative AI tools and methods to analyze these to predict the needs of the elderly effectively.  
 


Duties of the position
  • Participate in data collection within the participating countries.
  • Analyze large datasets and develop AI models capable of analysing and predicting patient care needs.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to implement these models to monitor and predict health conditions and care needs, using patient data.
  • Actively participate in project discussions and proposal developments.
  • Publish scientific papers within the field of AI in healthcare and present the work at international conferences.

Required selection criteria
  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD.
  • Candidates with documented upcoming completion of the PhD within six months after the application deadline may also apply If they can document that the PhD thesis has been submitted and not yet defended. Documentation of the obtained doctoral degree must be presented before you can take up the position.
  • Documented competency in fields relevant to health care, data science and/or artificial intelligence.
  • Fluent in English or Norwegian

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D Candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate.

  • Experience with machine learning and statistical methods, especially in healthcare.
  • Experience with federated learning.
  • Knowledge about the health care system in Norway

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 594 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund

The period of employment is 28 months. 

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants , and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.  

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The position is subject to external funding.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.

Joint works will be considered. If it is difficult to identify your contribution to joint works, you must attach a brief description of your participation.
