About the job

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.

The project is a collaboration between NTNU IT-department and IDI – Department of computer science which have a number of leading researchers in information-systems, software engineering and AI. 

The higher education sector is undergoing large changes. With more limited resources and on many areas increasing international competition, the area is, as other sectors, undergoing digitalization to support more efficient, effective, and sustainable operations.

Whereas historically many solutions have been made internally at many universities, one sees an increasing interest in developing solutions based on common digital service platforms to enhance interoperability, distribute cost, and speed up delivery of new solutions.  Lately also new implementation technology has become available, most notably generative AI-based (GAI) co-pilot technology.
 
The 3 year post-doctoral researcher to follow the process of procuring, developing and implementing solutions at NTNU as a representative of the higher education and research domain, with a focus on following the process when combining co-pilot technology and digital platform ecosystems. The candidate will work in close connection to activities at NTNU IT.

Your immediate leader is the head of the ISSE group.

Duties of the position

The candidate will follow one or more IT-initiatives at NTNU and study the process based on knowledge and research methods from the software engineering and information systems field.

Sub-topics can include:

• Pre-procurement process: How to clarify needs and requirements before the procurement, and ensure that they are being fulfilled given the rules for public procurement. Ensure business-case is develop according to all dimensions of sustainability.
• Sourcing. Both in general and of digital platforms. How to make decision on the platform to use as basis for the developments in an area and what competency is needed inhouse to make and evaluate requirements to digital platforms.
• Participatory definition and follow-up of requirements to applications built on top of a given platform.
• Ensuring that changes in platform to not endangering fulfilling core requirements.
• Platform customization process as a software engineering process, and use of co-pilot technology in the development of custom solutions in combination with digital platforms.
• How to ensure the sustainability of the overall solution (technical, ecological, personal, social, economical). 
• Implementation and further evolution of platform-based applications based on learnings from use. Ensure benefit management realization.

Required selection criteria

The postdoc’s main objective is to enhance and further develop research skills acquired during the PhD.

• Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in Information Systems, Software Engineering, human computer interaction, CSCW or a related area, or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.  If you can document that the PhD thesis has been submitted, your application can be assessed even if you have not yet defended your dissertation. Documentation of the obtained doctoral degree must be presented before you can take up the position.
• A good, documented understanding of the relevant research fields, including information systems and software engineering.
• Software and information systems engineering skills.
• Proven skills in applying qualitative, quantitative, or mixed research methods in real-world organizations.
• Demonstrated research capability via a good publication record in the relevant areas.
• The ability and willingness to conduct research independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent written and oral English language skills.
• Good oral skills in a Scandinavian language.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D Candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate.

• Knowledge and experience with issues related to use of co-pilot technology.
• Knowledge of the higher education domain.
• Knowledge with digital platform ecosystems.

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK  594 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The employment period is 3 years, one of which is dedicated for compulsory work.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants , and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.  

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.

  • How the candidate sees her/his background as suitable to contribute to the area of the position.
  • Theoretical and methodological knowledge about the research area.
  • A sketch of important research problems in the research area in the area of the position.
  • A summary of the candidate’s role and involvement in previous projects relevant for the research areas.
