Job description

The University of Stavanger invites applicants for a position as Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Energy Resources. The position is vacant from 01.08.2024.

The objective of the position is to strengthen research, and to give researchers/scholars holding a doctoral degree the opportunity for further qualification toward top academic positions.

The qualifying project will be carried out at the University of Stavanger. It is assumed that the appointee will work full time on the project and that she/he will participate in the academic community.

Postdoctoral Fellow is employed for a period of two years.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be affiliated with the following project «Data driven approach to lower CO2 emissions: the NCS case».

More and more hydrocarbon reservoirs are producing at high water cut. With the increasing cost of electricity and with the forthcoming CO2 production limitations, reservoir energy must be utilized optimally. Hereby, we will analyse historical reservoir production data at the Norwegian Continentantal Shelf (NCS) to develop an energy consumption model. The model will be benchmark against historical CO2 emission data from the NCS allowing for optimization of the energy consumption from oil and gas fields both locally (field by field) and regionally (groups of fields). Data driven analyses will be complemented by physical reservoir modelling, with machine learning approaches to extract correlations from data first, and causal analysis after to extract causation.

The position is funded by the NCS2030 centre.
