Research activity is provisionally organized into the groups of: Living Marine Resources, Sea Food Science, Fish Health, Marine Drug Discovery, Resource Management, Marine Management and Resource Economics.

Marbio – is an analytical platform at (UiT) for screening, isolation and identification of bioactive natural products. Marbio has an extensive portifolio of projects including extracts from plants, animals and microorganisms collected from marine, freshwater and terrestrial environments. The tight integration between robust, automated bioassays, early identification of known compounds and bioassay-guided purification of novel bioactive compounds has been essential to the success of Marbio. Arctic and sub-Arctic marine organisms are explored, searching for compounds with activities against bacteria, cancer and diabetes as well as compounds with immune-modulatory and antioxidative effects. Our screening campaign is based on a classic bioassay-guided fractionation approach.

Position's field of research

The postdoctoral fellow will work with development and execution of new bioassays (cell signaling, proliferation, kinase assays etc). Characterizing mechanisms of action for novel chemical compounds. The project will be an integrated part of the ongoing work at Marbio of finding new bioactive natural products that can be developed as drug lead candidates, with particular focus on cancer cell biology.
