About the position 

There is a vacancy for a full-time postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biology within the Integrative Evolutionary Ecology Group of Cameron Ghalambor.

The position is part of interdisciplinary research project funded by the Norwegian Research Council and NTNU. The project is focused on quantifying physiological variation among insect species spanning a wide latitudinal gradient from northern Norway to southern Spain.

Duties of the position

  • To conduct research under field and lab conditions

  • To assist MSc and PhD students

Required selection criteria

  • Educational requirements: a PhD in Biology, Ecology/Evolution, Organismal Biology, or another related field and postdoctoral research experience
  • Strong scientific background in relevant area, good communication- and analytical skills.
  • Very good written and oral English skills.
  • The ability to work independently, in a structured manner and in collaboration with others.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant   

Preferred selection criteria

  • Experience with measuring whole organism physiology, particularly in response to stress
  • An understanding and appreciation for how selection acts on suites of integrated traits
  • An interest and/or experience in establishing new models and theories that integrate ecology, evolution, and physiology,
  • Experience with data analysis or Bioinformatics including relevant scripting languages (e.g. R)
  • The ability to work in remote study sites and work with a team of international collaborators
  • Possess good organization and communication skills to integrate across disciplines.
  • Passion for science and science communication

We offer 

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 553 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 2 years and subject to external funding. 

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. 

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
