The Faculty of Engineering and Science has approximately 300 employees and approximately 3,200 students. The Mohns Center for Innovation and Regional Development researches innovation and offers master's education in innovation and entrepreneurship. The diving education offers a one-year vocational school education.


The main part of the faculty's activities are in Haugesund, Bergen, Sogndal and Førde.

The faculty's activities are internationally based and take place in close collaboration with regional companies, clusters, health trusts and the public sector, including other institutions in the university and college sector. This applies to research, development, innovation and not least education with student projects at all levels.

 


Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences has an open position for a PhD research fellow in novel materials for green Hydrogen production.

About the position:

The PhD Research Fellow will be affiliated with the Environment-friendly Energy Research center – Hyvalue that focuses on the entire value chain for hydrogen - production, distribution, use, regulations, safety, and commercialization.  The successful candidate will be attached to the Advanced Nano materials for Clean Energy and Health Applications (ANCEHA) research group at the Department of Computer science, Electrical engineering and Mathematical sciences, at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL).


About the PhD project/ work tasks:

The primary objective of the PhD project is to implement new nano structures and optimizing processes to develop high-efficient, environmentally stable, cost-effective, green hydrogen production technologies. Photocatalytic and photo electrochemical approaches for converting solar energy directly into Hydrogen are becoming promising candidates for future. This PhD research project will focus on developing and testing novel materials for photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical hydrogen production. Project will also address on identifying key design criteria for large-scale photocatalytic hydrogen production


Required educational background:

The PhD research fellow should have master's degree either in Chemistry, Physics, Nanotechnology, Material Sciences or Energy technology or in a closely related field, or have submitted the master's thesis before the application deadline.  A solid experimental background in synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials is required for the PhD position. Prior knowledge and experience working with Hydrogen related technologies will be an advantage. In addition to the required educational background, the following criteria will be evaluated: competence and grades on completed course work, quality of the master's thesis (excellent grade, equivalent of grade B or better on the ECTS grading system), publications (if any), research and teaching experience.

The candidate must be diligent and display the ability to work independently, supplemented with regular guidance, and is expected to carry out high-quality research and to publish the results in international workshops, conferences, and journals.

The PhD research fellow must enroll in the PhD programme at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences or at our collaborating partner, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Bergen, and must meet the formal admission requirements for admission into the PhD programme. 25% of the 4-year period will be designated to administrate the laboratory related tasks. An application for enrolment should first be submitted after an appointment is made and the supervisor will help with this procedure. The candidate must submit the application for enrollment in a PhD programme within 3 months from the start of the employment.

Initial salaries will be offered at grade 54 (code 1017) in the Civil Service pay grade table scale.
