Offer Description

There is a vacancy for a PhD Research Fellow in metal-organic frameworks for hydrogen purification and conversion of hydrogen into hydrogen carriers at the Department of Chemistry . The position is for a fixed-term period of 3 years with the possibility of a 4 th year with compulsory other work (e.g. teaching duties at the Department). The position is part of the Norwegian Center for Hydrogen Research (HyValue), a research centre for environmentally friendly energy (FME) funded by the Research Council of Norway.

About the project/work tasks
The green energy transition necessitates the development of new materials in a number of energy applications. The primary objective of the project is to prepare new metal organic framework materials and their derivatives, evaluate their properties for hydrogen purification and as component in photocatalytic water-splitting, ammonia synthesis and methane cracking. The position is part of the work package “Novel Production Methods” of the Norwegian Center for Hydrogen Research (HyValue), and some of the materials testing will be performed in collaboration with work tasks at some of the other participating research groups. We are looking for a research fellow with the right background and motivation to strengthen the experimental activities of the overall project. Specifically, the main tasks for the researcher will be synthesis of metal-organic framework, potentially including synthesis of organic linkers, characterization of the obtained materials, primarily by X-ray diffraction, including in-situ synchrotron experiments, thermal analysis, sorption measurements, and catalytic testing.

We are searching for a highly qualified and motivated candidates with an excellent track-record in chemistry, who is curious and creative, has a willingness to learn and apply new methods, has the skill to work independently and as a coworker in a team. The candidate is expected to contribute to the general maintenance of the research infrastructure in the research group and participate in popular science outreach activities. The successful candidate will be integrated in a team of bachelor’s and master’s students, PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers. The candidate will have the opportunity to both receive and give supervision and to develop leadership skills.
