About the position

Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, Nord University, Norway, invites applications from outstanding candidates for a three-year PhD position in games and entertainment technology focusing on young people’s mental health. The scholarship position has a focus on mediating recovery stories from young people (16-30 years), via visual and interactive technologies, such as e.g. "serious games" or “social impact games”.

The PhD fellow will be part of one of four work packages in the research project "NEON Young Norway Study: Facilitating narrative experiences online to provide mental health support for young people". The NEON Young Norway Study is financed by the Research Council of Norway, and includes national and international partners. The overall aim of the project is to gain increased knowledge and understanding of young people's recovery stories and to develop a digital health intervention that gives young people direct access to mental health support. The scholarship holder will mainly be associated with work package three, NEON Young Interactive, aiming to engage young people in recovery narratives through interactive media. The PhD fellow will explore how young people’s narratives are used in interactive media, examine what digital interactive media platforms recovery narratives could be disseminated and how young people experience recovery narratives integrated in serious- and social impact games.

The PhD research fellow will have close collaboration with researchers at the Recovery Research Team at the University of Nottingham, Mental Health Youth and municipalities involved in the NEON Young Norway Study. Arrangements can be made for the PhD research fellow to carry out a shorter or longer research stay at the University of Nottingham or other relevant university abroad.

Employment in the position requires an application for admission to the Ph.D. in Science of Professions at the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences. The project outline is drawn up in consultation with the supervisor after employment. The thesis must be written in English.
