Applications are invited for a 3-year position in a Research Fellowship as PhD Candidate in Experimental Immunology to be based at the Department of Immunology, Division of Laboratory Medicine, Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo.

The position is available from March 2024 with a flexible start between March and September 2024. It will be located in Dr. Greiff's laboratory (Lab for Computational and Systems Immunology, greifflab.org) and Dr. Fridtjof Lund-Johansen's lab. The European Research Council funds the position.

More about the position

The research fellow must take part in the University’s approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

The candidate will develop novel experimental approaches for analyzing antibody binding at high-throughput using sequencing, library, array, structural and bioinformatics approaches. 

The Greiff Lab focuses on the quantitative understanding of adaptive immune receptor (antibody and T-cell receptor) specificity using high-throughput experimental and computational immunology combined with machine learning. The long-term aim is to conceive in-silico novel immunodiagnostics and immunotherapeutics using the disease-diagnostic information and therapeutic potential that is directly encoded into adaptive immune receptors.

The Lund-Johansen lab focuses on array-based protein analysis for, for example, testing the specificity of antibodies to human proteins and screening for autoantibodies in serum from patients with auto-immune disease and cancer. Qualification requirements Personal skills
  • Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (120 ECTS) in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular, Biology, Immunology, Microbiology or related disciplines, a minimum grade B (ECTS grading scale) or equivalent. The Master’s degree must include a thesis of at least 30 ECTS.
  • Molecular biology experience is a requirement. This includes the design of DNA constructs with relevant software, gene cloning, propagation of plasmids in bacteria, plasmid preparation, gene expression, and PCR.
  • Experience in techniques for screening plasmid libraries, such as phage display and yeast display is an advantage.

  • Experience with techniques to isolate and characterize antibodies is an advantage. 
  • Experience with flow cytometry is an advantage.
  • Experience in antibody immunology is an advantage 
  • Experience in NGS library preparation and bioinformatics analysis is an advantage
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
