A full-time permanent position as Associate Professor in Vocational Didactics within the field of Restaurant and Food Processing is available within the Section for Vocational Education, School Development and Educational Leadership of the Department of Teacher Education (ILU).

The Department of Teacher Education has about 470 members of staff and nearly 4,000 students. The department offers a complete degree program that qualifies students for teaching positions in all subjects and stages of Norwegian primary and secondary education. The department also offers a wide range of continuing education and post-graduate courses for teachers and school leaders.

The position is in the Section for Vocational Education, School Development and Educational Leadership. The Vocational Teacher Education Program includes a three-year bachelor’s program for vocational teachers in building and construction, electricity and electronics, healthcare, childhood and youth development, restaurant and food processing and technical and industrial production. We also offer professional didactics in flexible practical-pedagogical education, post-graduate courses for teachers and master’s degree in professional didactics, all for vocational teachers and instructors.

You will report to the Head of Section for Vocational Education, School Development and Educational Leadership


Responsibilities 
  • Teaching and supervision within vocational teacher education, including bachelor programmes, master programmes, Ph.D-programmes, continuing and further education
  • Contribute to new research perspectives on vocational didactics, learning and assessment, organization and development in the field of vocational education
  • Take care of the professional responsibility for teaching and research together with the unit's other scientific staff
  • Contribute to the research community's research and school-based competence development activities based on the need in the vocational section

Required qualifications 

You must have the qualifications required for the position of associate professor in the field of vocational didactics, as outlined in the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts 

  • Your PhD, or comparable academic work, must be within the field of vocational didactics. If you can document that you are in the final stages of your PhD studies, your application may also be considered. Applicants without a Ph.D. may be considered for the position if they can document work/experience equals a Ph.D. in range and quality.
  • Applicants must have vocational competence within the field of restaurant and food

    processing.

  • Teaching and leadership/organisational experience from vocational education is required.
  • Experience with supervision of vocational teacher students is required.

You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and supervision at a university/higher education-level, as referenced in the Norwegian national Regulations . If this cannot be documented, you will be required to complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses. 

New employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language by appointment is required, within three years, to demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three of the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU .  


Preferred qualifications
  • teaching experience from higher education (NB – delete this if it not applicable)
  • Applicants with research experience within the field of didactics and/or pedagogic in

    vocational education will be prioritized.

  • Applicants with experience with vocational pedagogies and didactics, both in vocational

    education in upper secondary school and vocational teacher education will be preferred.

  • Experience with the use of information technology in teaching contexts is preferred.
  • Applicants that are experienced in teaching academic writing will be preferred.

Salary and conditions

A position as Associate Professor (code 1011) will typically receive a gross salary of between NOK 553 500 – 715 900 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. As required by law, 2% of this salary will be deducted and paid into the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Employment will be granted in accordance with the principles outlined in the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. Applicants should be aware that there may be changes in the working environment after employment has commenced.

Joint work will also be considered. If it is difficult to identify your specific input to a joint project, you must include evidence of your contributions.

While considering the best-qualified applicants, we will pay particular attention to personal qualities, your motivation for applying for the position, and your pedagogical skills and qualifications. Our assessment will be based on documented pedagogical material, forms of presentation in your academic works, teaching experience, PhD, and Masters supervision, and any other relevant pedagogical background. Both quality and scope will be taken into consideration. 

NTNU is obliged by the evaluation criteria for research quality in accordance with The San Fransisco Declaration on Research Assessment – DORA.  This means that we will pay particular attention to the quality and academic range demonstrated by your scientific work to date. We will also pay attention to research leadership and participation in research projects. Your scientific work from the last five years will be given the most weight.
