Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes, a master’s degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

The department of Computer Science has a 100% permanent position as Associate Professor in Cybersecurity. The position is available from 1 August 2024.

The Department is in a period of increasing activities in several subject areas, including cyber security. The department is further developing its study portfolio and a new specialization in cyber security will start this autumn, within the master’s program Applied Data and Information Technology (ACIT), to meet increasing demand from society for this type of competence. We are looking for an innovative, creative and responsible candidate who is able to contribute to teaching, research and development in cyber security, with a focus on information security, data protection and privacy, political and societal implications of cyber security. The candidate must show commitment to the development and innovation of relevant study programs, develop own courses and teaching content, and collaborate in research with national and international partners.


Your main duties and areas of responsibility will be to
  • teach and supervise at bachelor's, master's and PhD-level, for example in programming in information security, privacy, security policy, and other subjects in cybersecurity
  • actively contribute to the development of the study programs at the department
  • perform professional-administrative tasks
  • conduct your own research and development work
  • take the initiative to and further develop research collaborations with national and international partners

Qualification requirement
  • doctoral degree or equivalent within a field relevant for cybersecurity (e.g. information security, security architecture, security in mobile systems, privacy protection, security management, risk analysis) in computer science, informatics, or similar.
  • documented research experience and scientific publications within cybersecurity and relevant technologies.
  • good knowledge and experience with work in cybersecurity.
  • good collaboration and communication skills
  • written and oral proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English

Persons who at the time of employment do not have sufficient skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language will be offered training in Norwegian, and must be able to demonstrate Norwegian skills at least equivalent to level B2 within three years from the time of employment.

The applicant must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet’s Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet .

  • the ability to disseminate science and communicate via the media, public lectures and engagement with society
  • good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is a major advantage

The position is paid in accordance with the Norwegian State main tariff agreements and OsloMet's salary policy in position code 1011 Associate professor NOK. 615 700 – 745,000. For particularly well-qualified applicants, a higher salary can be considered. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK).
