Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes, a master’s degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

The Department of Computer Science has a permanent 100% position as Associate Professor in Computer Science. The position is available from 01.08.2024.


Your main duties and areas of responsibility will be to
  • teaching and supervising at bachelor's and master's level, for example in software development, operating systems, test of software, application development, and other subjects within informatics
  • actively contribute to the development of the study programs at the department
  • perform professional-administrative tasks
  • conduct your own research and development work
  • take the initiative to and further develop research collaborations with national and international partners

Qualification requirements
  • doctoral degree or equivalent within a field relevant for computer science, computer science, software development or similar
  • documented research experience and scientific publications within system development, software development, or operating systems
  • good competence within one or more of the following areas: Java, C/C++, Python, software testing, software development, open-source projects, containers, and virtualization.
  • written and oral proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English

Persons who at the time of employment do not have sufficient skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language will be offered training in Norwegian, and must be able to demonstrate Norwegian skills at least equivalent to level B2 within three years from the time of employment.

The applicant must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet’s Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet.

  • the applicant's teaching experience, pedagogical qualities, and motivation for teaching and supervision at bachelor's and master's level.
  • flexibility and the ability to adapt teaching and research to the department's and OsloMet's needs, including the ability for interdisciplinary collaboration
  • the ability to build an environment and network, build research projects and demonstrate new thinking and innovation
  • ability to disseminate science and communicate via the media, public lectures and engagement with society
  • good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage

For applicants who cannot document competencies within teaching in higher education have to develop this within two years from accession. OsloMet offers courses in teaching and learning in higher education which covers this requirement.

The position is paid in accordance with the Norwegian State main tariff agreements and OsloMet's salary policy in position code 1011 Associate professor NOK. 708 000 – 845 900. For particularly well-qualified applicants, a higher salary can be considered. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK).
