Associate Professor in Building Technology

Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Built Environment offers bachelors and master’s degree programs in engineering, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 60 staff members and 850 students.

At the Department of Built Environment there is a vacancy for a 100 % permanent position as Associate Professor in Building Technology. The preferred start date is 01.08.2024. The department is further developing its study portfolio and has plans to strengthen its professional environment within building technology. We are looking for an innovative, creative and responsible candidate who is able to contribute to teaching, research and development within building technology. The candidate will lead research and teaching with a focus on building technology, building physics, smart building design and digital twins. The candidate will also collaborate with the department's groups to carry out interdisciplinary activities.

• teach and supervise students at bachelor, master, and PhD-levels
• teaching introduction to Building Professions, Life Cycle Assessment for Built Environment, and related subjects
• lead and contribute to research initiatives with a focus on innovative building technologies, zero emission buildings and sustainability in built environment
• actively contribute to the development of high-quality education to reflect the latest trends and advancements in building technology and sustainable practices
• engage in collaborative research and development activities, aimed at advancing building technology, sustainability, and occupant comfort
• foster partnerships with industry and academic institutions to promote the application of sustainable building practices and technologies
• perform academic administrative tasks
• actively contribute to the development if the department and OsloMet as an institution
• communicate research results, both within in the academic community and society as a whole
• be a driving force in the development of large-scale research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues in the academic community

• PhD in a field related to building technology, sustainable building design, or a closely related field
• documented research competence and publications in one or more of the following areas:

o   building technology

o   building physics

o   smart building design

o   building energy simulation tools

o   sustainable building construction methods

o   digital twins in building technology

• experience in teaching and supervision in higher education 
• written and oral proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English

The applicant must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet’s Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence at OsloMet . 

General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts . 

Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, shall be offered Norwegian courses, and must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment. 

• ability to apply knowledge from various disciplines and combine them into new disciplines
• ability to combine theoretical and practical issues and the importance you place on innovation
• flexibility and the ability to adapt teaching and research to the needs of OsloMet and the department, including interdisciplinary collaboration
• familiarity with artificial intelligence applications in construction and proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) is desirable
• prior experience in teaching within the field of building technology will be considered a plus

• ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• good cooperation and communication skills
• qualities which contribute positively to the work environment

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMets pay policy for Associate Professor in code 1011, corresponding to NOK NOK 615 700- 745 000 per year. rom the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
