The University of Stavanger invites applicants for one temporary position as Assistant Professor of ELT methodology at the Faculty of Arts and Education, Department of Education and Sports Science. The position is open for appointment from August 1st  2024 – December 31st 2026.

The subject area for the positions is ELT methodology with a focus on linguistics/applied linguistics within the context of the Teacher Education programmes offered at the university.

English is taught both at bachelors and masters level in the Teacher Education Programmes for grades 1 – 7 and grades 5 – 10. The candidate may also be asked to contribute to partnership school-related work.

Qualification requirements

We are seeking an Assistant Professor with a master or equivalent qualification in English Language Teaching methodology with a focus on linguistics and/or applied linguistics.

In addition, you must have English language proficiency at the C2 level or native speaker competence since English is the teaching and interactional language with students.

Applicants with following experience will be given priority:

  • teaching experience from primary and/or secondary schools, preferably from the Norwegian context, in the school subject English.
  • teaching experience from the tertiary level within English linguistics/applied linguistics in teacher education

The Faculty of Arts and Education is the region’s most important institution for educating teachers for kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, upper secondary schools and higher education. The Faculty also provides basic education in sport, languages, religion and history, as well as eight Master’s programmes and two doctoral programmes.
The Faculty has three national centres: The National Centre for Reading Education and Research (the Reading Centre), the National Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research (The Learning Environment Centre) and the Knowledge Centre for Education (KSU), as well as the Filiorum Centre for Early Childhood Research. The Faculty collaborates with the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training and local government authorities in respect of further and continuing education.
