NHH – for you who aspire to more!
About the position
NHH in Bergen, Norway, invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in business economics with a specialisation in energy analytics at the Department of Business and Management Science. The duration of the position is four years.
The Department of Business and Management Science has high ambitions in terms of research and offers a stimulating work environment. The main activities are organised in five broad research areas: i) Managerial Economics and Business Strategy ii) Business Taxation iii) Asset Management and Risk Analysis iv) Energy Markets, Resource Management and Sustainability v) Shipping, Logistics and Operations Management. The department is multi-disciplinary, and the research covers both empirical and theoretical inquiries. For more information, please consult our webpage .
NHH has recently developed new programs with an emphasis on business analytics and programming both at the master’s and bachelor’s level. The department’s portfolio of courses in this area is therefore growing. The department is also a partner in several large, technology-oriented research projects that focus on energy transition and sustainability, such as NTRANS , HyValue and Climate Futures . The department aims to expand this project portfolio. Business experience and the ability to engage in discussions on applied research with industry partners will be emphasised.
Applicants must have a PhD degree from a recognised business school or university and must demonstrate high quality in both research and teaching. The department seeks ambitious candidates early in their careers and wants to strengthen its capacity in the intersection between big data analytics and energy economics. The candidate appointed should be able to teach specialised courses in these areas and more broadly on business topics such as management control, asset management and sustainable investments.
The position involves teaching on average one course per year as well as some graduate supervision. There is a clear expectation that students will receive high-quality instructions, and that the candidate appointed can teach successfully for large groups of students.
When evaluating applicants, strong emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s potential for high-quality research as well as international experience and teaching. The ability to work on topics of relevance for several research areas in the department will be an advantage.
The department is responsible for large courses in NHH’s master’s and bachelor’s programs that are taught in Norwegian. Proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is therefore an advantage.
NHH needs to improve its gender balance. In the event of equivalent qualifications, female applicants will be given preference.
NHH offers
- a competitive salary that is negotiable within the Norwegian State Salary Scale for junior positions. The salary will depend both on the level of competence and length of service. External research grants and teaching in executive programs may offer exceptional candidates opportunities for supplementing the base salary.
- a favorable membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK ) and good welfare benefits such as parental leave.
- research funds for traveling and conference participation and a bonus system for publication in top international journals (up to NOK 200 000).
Note that health care, schooling for children, and most other public services are free in Norway. The city of Bergen has a mild, coastal climate and offers rich opportunities for culture and outdoor activities - as well as a family-friendly environment (explore visitnorway.com ).
