Who we are

The Higher Education Development Centre (HEDC) is an academic department that provides service to the University by contributing to the development of University policy on teaching and learning, as well as offering academic support and advice to staff and students. HEDC works in partnership with staff and students to advance, preserve and promote the ideals, knowledge and values of higher education.


The Role


We are looking for a Teaching Fellow to provide learning support at the University of Otago, Wellington. This person will work under the supervision of the academic lead responsible for the Student Learning Development programme.


In this role, you will be required to:

• Work one to one with postgraduates and undergraduates for academic skills support.

• Be involved in the preparation of teaching materials.

• Deliver tutorials and workshops.

• Undertake administration duties as required.


Your Skills and Experience


The successful applicant will have an expert understanding of postgraduate and undergraduate student learning skills development at tertiary level as well as:

• Master’s degree (a PhD will be an advantage).

• Proven ability to work with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
