Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Academic Administrator to join the Administration Team to provide comprehensive, high quality academic administrative support to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.


Based on the Palmerston North campus, this role will actively engage in ongoing development of work request systems/processes and new ways of performing academic administrative work and support awareness and uptake by managers and staff.  

Critical to supporting the College’s academic portfolio you will have oversight of the Student Management System (SMS), Curriculum Management System (CMS) and associated committees, regulations and will be working within student records ensuring seamless student progression as well as providing support of course specialisations and programme-related activities aligned to schools/units.

Due to the nature of the duties of this position the successful applicant will be required to have:

  • Familiarity with Te Reo Māori, Te Ao Māori Tikanga, and experience working in a kaupapa Māori context.
  • Previous experience working in a culturally responsive environment.
  • Ability to support teams and programmes to embed Māori principles and practices.


The successful applicant will also:

  • Have strong interpersonal communication skills, being receptive and helpful when dealing with a diverse range of people within the University and externally.
  • Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to handle varying levels of complexity and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Be highly self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and cooperatively as an effective team member, with absolute discretion when dealing with sensitive situations and confidential matters.
  • Have strong problem-solving capabilities, with a high level of maturity, initiative, and personal integrity.
  • Experience working in a Tertiary Education Institute with familiarity and work experience in academic administration.
