Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a School Administrator - Mata Ahupae within the Te Kura Tātari Reo - School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies . The role will cover administration support to all ELI programmes and work as part of a wider team in the School.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To manage the diverse demands of numerous ELI programmes including facilities, programme resources, graduation/certificate ceremonies and ELI functions, often at demanding times that lie outside the standard academic trimester.
  • To support the ELI Director with developing and implementing proposals for new English language courses which align with core teaching and learning activities of the English Language Institute.
  • To provide timely and accurate administrative support to the ELI Director, programme coordinators in Vietnam and New Zealand, ELI staff and students by effective and efficient administration.
  • Administering programme systems to support teaching, learning, application and enrolment.
  • Developing and managing effective systems to accurately administer numerous ELI programmes.
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with key external and internal stakeholders, including institutes, government agencies, research centres and other departments within the University.

You will be a motivated, customer-focused individual who can take the initiative. You will need strong attention to detail and self-management skills. This role is busy, challenging, extremely rewarding and interesting for the individual with the right temperament.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience in customer service preferably in office administration.
  • Outstanding people and communication skills including the ability to adjust to different audiences.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Capability to work as part of a team as well as having individual responsibilities.
  • Proven problem-solving and events management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of updating websites and working with information systems (knowledge of Dreamweaver, LCMS and Moodle will be an advantage).

The following skills and experience are desirable:

  • Experience in the education environment, especially the tertiary and ESOL sectors.
  • Experience of and sensitivity in managing relationships with people from varying cultures, religions and language ability.
