Position Overview

We seek to appoint a Registered Nurse to join our team at the Research Centre for Hauora and Health.

This is a 24-month fixed-term contract involving planning and undertaking clinical tests for a large research programme that evaluates interventions to reduce occupational disease in solvent-exposed spray painters, silica-exposed construction workers, and pesticide-exposed agricultural workers. It also involves assisting with the clinical aspects of other public health research projects.

The Centre is a Tiriti-based research Centre in the College of Health on the Wellington campus. We conduct hauora and health research that is of scientific importance and has the potential to improve public health, reduce health inequities, and guide policy development.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to ground-breaking health research. You will enjoy a friendly working environment, and work both independently and as part of a close-knit, supportive team of nurses and researchers. You will be working across diverse environments which, will include traveling around New Zealand. Although the hours for this role are generally Monday to Friday 9-5 pm, given the nature of the work, early starts and late finishes are not unusual. A full-time role is preferred, but other arrangements may be negotiated.

As a research nurse, you will be responsible for arranging and conducting clinical tests on research participants. You will assist in developing and reviewing protocols to ensure testing is carried out safely for staff and participants and maintain the appropriate equipment. You will be involved in the recruitment of participants, interviewing, and recording information onto the study databases. At times you will need to review results and liaise with other health care providers where necessary.

An ideal candidate for this role will:

  • be a NZ registered nurse with a current practising certificate
  • have a minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience
  • have a good working knowledge of MS office and is computer literate
  • have flexibility with working hours and the ability to travel outside of Wellington with regular overnight stays
  • have a full NZ driver’s licence
  • be willing to undertake further training to acquire new skills
  • be comfortable working independently in a wide range of settings
  • be comfortable working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds

No former research nursing experience is required, although an understanding and interest in health research would be an advantage. The following skills are integral to the role; however, full training will be provided:

  • minimum of level 4 resuscitation skills.

If you have any enquiries about the role please feel free to direct them Prof Jeroen Douwes [email protected] or Stephanie Hobbs [email protected] .

All completed applications must please be submitted online via our Massey Careers page.

Applications close 7th August 2022.
