Professor of Waterways Management

Co-direct the Waterways Centre, a joint Lincoln University and University of Canterbury Initiative, conduct research and supervision.

Mō te tūka | The role

Seeking applications for an exceptional Professor to co-direct the Lincoln University/University of Canterbury Waterways Centre, and provide academic leadership and mentoring in teaching, research and service responsibilities in Waterways Management.

Key tasks of the role include:

  • Initiate, develop and conduct high quality research, collaborating with others in and outside the University.
  • Contribute to the supervision of postgraduate students' research.
  • Contribute to the wider functioning of the University.
  • Add to extension and other professional activities related to the discipline.
  • Where appropriate, advance and enhance the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

This is a permanent full-time role working 37.5 hours per week based at our Lincoln campus. 

Remuneration for this position will be negotiated based on the Professor Scale of the Academic Employment Collective agreement.

Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A completed PhD in a relevant field, or other relevant qualifications commensurate with the seniority of the role.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership of a research group, centre or institute (including mentoring staff, developing research programmes, and leading major collaborative research projects)
  • Demonstrated active research agenda in the area of waterways management
  • Demonstrated ability to secure significant and sustained external research funding
  • Demonstrated record of attracting and successfully supervising PhD students
  • Demonstrated significant and high-quality record of scholarly research including publication in leading journals and/or with leading academically reputable presses (or where appropriate, extensive relevant industry/professional experience)
  • Demonstrated record of high-quality and successful tertiary teaching where relevant
  • Demonstrated evidence of a strong contribution to the achievement of the strategic goals of an organisation
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to work with, mentor and lead colleagues from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Proven engagement with Māori, Pasifika or Indigenous communities
  • Knowledge, skills and experience in Māori, Pasifika or Indigenous approaches to water management
